When adding an office, the EIN field does not have validation or hint text on how to enter. As an EIN is NN-NNNNNNN the natural inclination would be to enter it that way in the EIN field and 990 Tracker lets you enter it that way; but, it drops the last digit (which we didn’t catch initially). Instead, you need to enter it without the – and then when it comes over in the paid preparer section it then adds the – there as well as on the IRS forms. We now know that; but, thinking as 990 Tracker expands that it would be helpful to have hint text and/or other validation so that others don’t make the same mistake we did.
